Castor oil

Castor oil. Oleum Ricini.

Form of release of medicine. Bottles on 30 and 50 ml; elastic gelatinous capsules on 1 g.

Use and doses of drug. Inside after food on 1 — 2 teaspoons of oil on reception. 10 capsules accept within an hour. Outwardly — in ointments.

Effect of the medicine. In a small bowel under the influence of the enzymes which are contained in a digestive tract the ritsinolovy acid possessing the irritating properties is released. The laxative effect is caused by reflex strengthening of a vermicular movement of guts usually in 5 — 6 h after oil reception. After emptying of guts there is a weakening of a vermicular movement. Castor oil reflex strengthens reduction of muscles of a uterus.

Indications to use. Locks of various origin, poisoning (except for poisonings with fat-soluble substances), weakness of patrimonial activity. Outwardly — for treatment of burns, ulcers, strengthening of hair, mitigation of skin.

Contraindications. See Sodium sulfate. Besides, poisonings with phosphorus and use of fat-soluble helminthicides.

Possible by-effects. Nausea, vomiting, a severe diarrhea, after emptying of guts the lock is possible.

Treatment of complications and poisoning. Drink (water, milk). Transfusion therapy. Atropini sulfas.
