Potassium chloride

Potassium chloride. Kalii chloridum. Kalii chloratum.

Form of release of medicine. Powder, 4% solution in ampoules on 50 ml, 10% solution for intake, tablets on 0,5 and 1 g.

Use and doses of drug. Inside on 1 — 2 tablespoons (15 — 20 ml). 10% of solution or on 1 g of 4 — 5 — 7 times a day after food. At a number of diseases (stopping of attacks of a Bouveret's disease) use shock doses (40 — 120 ml of 10% of solution for intake), and after achievement of therapeutic effect pass to usual. Intravenously kapelno 0,4 — 0,5% solution for 5% glucose solution; 500 ml (2 — 2,4 g of potassium of chloride) of such solution enter during 1 h, in days it is possible to enter to 1,5 l into 3 — 4 receptions.

Effect of the medicine. Is the main intracellular ion and together with a potassium sodium ion chloride forms the system providing isotonicity of cells and environment, and also a normal current of the bioelectric phenomena which are connected with processes of nervous and muscular irritability and conductivity. Increase of potassium concentration is followed by lowering of excitability and conductivity, and high doses oppress him automatism and sokratitelny function of a myocardium. Potassium is an antagonist of cardiac glycosides on their influence on a heart rhythm, but does not counteract their positive inotropic action. Potassium chloride increases the maintenance of acetylcholine, stimulates release of adrenaline from adrenal glands, excites a sympathetic nervous system, and also is necessary for sokratitelny activity of muscles. Salts of potassium are quickly soaked up at introduction inside and quickly removed from an organism by kidneys.

Indications to use. Muscular dystrophy, a myasthenia, a ciliary arrhythmia, a Bouveret's disease, disturbance of a cordial rhythm at intoxication cardiac glycosides; for recovery of level of potassium in an organism at use of corticosteroids (a cortisone of acetate and not mercury diuretics), Diacarbum, a dichlothiazide; at persistent vomiting, diarrhea, heavy intoxications, after operative measures.

Contraindications. The diseases of kidneys which are followed by disturbance of their secretory function.

Possible by-effects. At intravenous administration — paresthesia, increase in quantity of extrasystoles; at intake — nausea vomiting diarrhea.

Treatment of complications and poisonings. To cause vomiting (15% chloride sodium solution) or to wash out a stomach isotonic solution of sodium of chloride. Isotonic solution of sodium of sulfate. Intravenously 10 — 20 ml of 10% of solution of calcium of a gluconate, 20 ml of 20% of solution of sodium of chloride, 100 — 250 ml of 20% of solution of glucose from 20 — 45 PIECES of insulin. At hypotension — noradrenaline. In hard cases — a hemodialysis, an intubation, an artificial respiration. To appoint cardiac glycosides with care.
