Bartonellosis (Karrion's illness, the Peruvian wart, fever oroya) — the infectious disease which is transmitted by mosquitoes. It is widespread in mountain valleys of Peru, Ecuador and in the southwest of Colombia. In 2 — 3 weeks after infection irregular rises in body temperature, an ostealgia and joints are noted, anemia and a hyperadenosis, and later 1 — 3 month on skin and mucous membranes develop small knots.
At children the illness proceeds easier, than at adults. Visitors get sick seldom. Prevention consists in restriction of departures in the illness centers, use of repellents in hours of activity of mosquitoes (after sunset), carrying protective clothes.
